As odd as it may seem, working in a super isolated and quiet place is not the best for boosting your productivity and creativity. Likewise, a loud environment is also not a good thing for getting stuff done. And science says that ambient noise is the perfect catalyst for a creative and productive burst.

If you’re anything like me, then you just read that and had a thought something like “yeah, right” because you prefer quiet when working. But, it is hard to argue with science and the Journal of Consumer Research, among other notable publications, scientist have done a study on this exact topic ambient sounds.

A very interesting find was noted in this topic of ambient sound study, I would like to share these brief points that was found to be of merit at the two decibel levels listed below.

Sounds at:

    • a moderate (70 dB) level of ambient noise enhances performance on creative tasks more than a low (50 dB) level of ambient noise

a high level of noise (85 dB) hurts creativity
